Yesterday we announced that Cándela Taco Bar would be officially closed to the public... while the menu and the brand will continue through our private event space I can’t help but feel all the feels in closing this chapter of my life. This was not just a restaurant, it was a space that held all my fears and dreams, that saw my growth and put me up against everything that made me stronger. I’m ready and beyond excited for this new stage but I’d be lying to myself if I didn’t mourn. She was my first baby. Candela is my greatest teacher. 2008 23yr old me... From build out, city plans, learning the Restaurant lingo and biz, since I had never worked in one.... Hiring men that probably thought “who’s this little girl” to jumping in the back to wash dishes because “you do what you have to do”.... All my dreams under one roof. Being a “Boss” having ownership of something, making my parents proud and earning respect. All things I now know are all within. With nothing to prove and no one but myself to make proud.. I walk away from a chapter in my life that was full of many highs but also many lessons. Moments of doubt and wiping of tears to keep it moving. This business is not for the faint of heart... and after 14 years I know it’s my time to say bye to her, to make space for the growth that is to come. Thank you Cándela for all the memories and beautiful people you brought to my life. To my family who were and are my reason and the pillars to all that I do! For the teams we built and the community that was felt. Thank you Los Angeles for your love support and honest feedback. You too are going to be missed but I promise we are not going anywhere!!!
