The recent naming of Barbara Morrison Square on 43rd St. and Degnan Blvd. honors the jazz and blues icon who devoted her life to fostering up-and-coming talent in the Leimert Park community. “Barbara Morrison is a cultural treasure because she had long-standing community engagement as well as music classes for young people. She is a Blues, RnB, and Jazz icon. She provided a platform for performances by marginalized artists to hone their craft as singers, stage performers, and artists.
