From Campfire Story to Off-Broadway & Back Home to San Pedro. When Chicana playwright and poet Linda Delmar lost her mother, she felt a deep urgency to preserve her family’s stories. What began as a short story told around a campfire evolved into Shadows—a deeply personal play about culture, identity, and the generations that shape us. Staged for the first time in 1997 in a Parks & Rec center, Shadows made its way to Off-Broadway through Delmar’s sheer determination. Without formal training, funding, or a producer, she made it happen—because if she waited for someone else to tell this Chicano story, it may have never been told. Now, 25 years later, Shadows comes full circle in San Pedro. This final production is a family affair, directed by Linda’s son, Derek Delmar, who plays his grandfather, a man he never met. Her 12-year-old granddaughter, Sirena, plays young Linda—five generations of legacy, taking center stage. ✨ 2 weekends only! Don’t miss this special run! ✨ 📍 Now playing at the Grand Annex in San Pedro 🎟️: @delmar.productions (link in bio) #ShadowsThePlay #ChicanoTheater #LatinoTheater #MexicanAmericanStories #delmarproductions
