It is said that in the Kamakura period (1185-1333), there used to be a three-color rice cake (black, red, and white) that was offered to samurai boys in a ceremony to celebrate their successful hunting when they shot their first prey in a hunt. It was called "Yaguchi Mochi" and was recently reissued by Toyoshimaya, a confectioner in Kamakura. We enjoyed it while thinking of the Kamakura warriors.
