It is said that in the Kamakura period (1185-1333), there used to be a three-color rice cake (black, red, and white) that was offered to samurai boys in a ceremony to celebrate their successful hunting when they shot their first prey in a hunt. It was called "Yaguchi Mochi" and was recently reissued by Toyoshimaya, a confectioner in Kamakura. We enjoyed it while thinking of the Kamakura warriors. The plates we used are Kamakura carvings, a craft from Kamakura. 矢口餅を先日いただきました。 狩猟の成功を祝う儀式で供えられたお餅だそうです。 こういった復刻菓子はロマンがありますな。
