I represent a portion of the Satmar Jewish community and last night I had the honor of attending my 2nd Kuf Alef Kislev Celebration. Kuf Alef (21st) Kislev is the Hebrew anniversary date of the fateful boarder-crossing of Rabbi Joel Teitelbaum OBM, from Nazi controlled land to Switzerland. The Rebbe was in a transport that spent time in the Bergen Belsen camp, and was then headed to Auschwitz, when the train was miraculously diverted to Switzerland. The rebbe went on to establish the Satmar community - the largest Hasidic community with more than 100,000 followers in New York State, and many more worldwide. It’s always a privilege to be able to attend!
