Growing up as a kid my mother told me repeatedly “I was capable of anything I put my mind to.” On this day 13 years ago I received a phone call from Dean Spanos, AJ Smith and Norv Turner that would serve as proof that she was right all along. Only a handful of people in my life know with any level of detail what exactly occurred with me on this day. I, along with national media were uncertain around my draft status and whether or not I would actually be selected in the first round of picks. Around family and friends in our home that day I must have been visibly nervous, trying my best to act as normal as possible while experiencing every emotion within. About half way into the first round of selections I needed to figure myself out and went to sit in my bedroom alone, when an overwhelming air of peace fell over me and something prompted me to my knees in gratitude, knowing that no matter what happened that day, it would be a blessing for me, my family and many others. In that very instant my phone rang with these three men on the other end communicating the fact that they would be selecting me with the 16th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. That moment I found out that ANYTHING is possible with enough FAITH, COMMITMENT & oftentimes GRATITUDE before we even see the actual proof that the result is real.
