Children struggling at home are not always easy to point out or are the ones you think it is going to be. Children of alcohol-dependent parents may deal with home life completely differently to one another including in the household. They adapt to dysfunction in the way that makes them feel most safe. This leads to co-dependency which can affect us long into our adulthood. A Lost Child may appear as a “good” child or a “quiet” one, maybe labelled a daydreamer, they may keep to themselves and have difficulty communicating or expressing their emotions.
If you would like to find out more about the different roles children can take on, please go to the link in our bio regarding Family Illness. If you relate to this post, please know that you are not alone and you can reach out to us.
