I'm happy to announce the publication of "Anita Steckel: The Feminist Art of Sexual Politics," a book showcasing a fearless artist who was dedicated to the fight against censorship and the representation of female agency and desire. On the cover is Steckel's "Balancing Act" from the "Giant Woman on New York" series in which a monumental female nude takes ownership of the public space of the city, from the Empire State Building to Coney Island. The book was created in conjunction with an exhibition of the same title curated by the brilliant scholar Rachel Middleman and me at the Stanford Art Gallery.
