It seems that the huge discrepancy in our SPF use (or lack of it, in Sebastian's case!) is now in the national interest. 😉
🙏 @lucyelkins1 for inviting me to contribute with this article (See LINK in BIO), which looks more deeply as to why not just my oncologist husband but men, in general, can be so cavalier about protecting their skin.
I have nagged Sebastian for so many years about ✨SPF✨ that it has become like white noise. I follow him with my Factor 50 Spray as you might a young child. He might, on occasion, wear a UV protection T-shirt — but sadly only because he can't be bothered to apply sunscreen. 🙄
But, joking aside, I spend every day seeing people with skin cancers, the vast majority of which could be preventable. Since the early 1990s cases of malignant melanoma have doubled in women — but have tripled in men.
There are so many factors that might contribute to men resisting SPF: ⚡️For instance, the unfamiliarity of using cream on the skin at all. ⚡️Also, just because a man might have naturally pigmented skin (like Sebastian) and not burn, he might think the sun is not damaging. Well, I'm afraid that's not true. ⚡️ Another myth is that if it's possible to SEE cancer on the SURFACE of the skin it's not as sinister as other types of cancers. Again, not true.
Now, do I show this article to Sebastian?! 🤔 In the meantime, Do TAG a man who needs to read this.
It really is SO important that we pave the way to reduce future sun damage by developing good habits early in life.
