@brighamyounguniversity’s video series Artful recently featured Lisa Delong, outreach and harmony programme manager at our @schooloftraditionalarts. Lisa (@lisavalkyrie) uses geometry to reflect the order of the universe through artistic traditions rooted in sacred beliefs. “I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember,” says Lisa in the video. “My initial life plan was to go into medicine. I decided I would take the anatomy for artists class and, before I knew it, I decided to do art. “I had a few classes where geometry was introduced as a theme, and that really clicked with me. It made sense to me intuitively. “I came across the book The Power of Limits and it was all these geometric analyses of natural forms that all had these beautiful harmonic proportions in them. It was the most exciting thing I had ever read. “Those moments in life where you know exactly what you should be doing are really rare, but when they show up, they are crystal clear. “The second moment was when I found the catalogue for The Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts here in London. “I knew that I needed to do what was necessary to come and study at this school, not only what they taught but also the spiritual context that they tried to place everything in. “Understanding how creativity, craftsmanship and materials are part of how we reflect our understanding of the divine back into the world. “The school introduced this idea of tradition: not doing things the way they’ve always been done, but handing down principles, and those principles have their roots in the sacred.” To view the video, go to tinyurl.com/PFLisaDelong ____________ #princesfoundation #princesfoundationschooloftraditionalarts #princesschooloftraditionalarts #traditionalarts #brighamyounguniversity #brighamyoung
