From soft-serve innovation to Miami-made wellness, Ernie’s Açaí is redefining what a bowl can be.
Founded in 2022, Ernie’s Açaí was born from Hernando Caicedo’s discovery of a West Coast soft-serve concept—and his decision to build something better for Miami. “There really were no places in Miami that were açaí-focused at the time,” says Caicedo, President and Co-Founder.
After licensing an early product and refining it in-house, the team developed a proprietary, organic blend with lower sugar, no added water, and a creamier, denser texture that doesn’t melt into a “soupy goopy mess” under the Miami sun.
Poured from a soft-serve machine, Ernie’s bowls are faster to make, more flavorful, and intentionally sized to be a true meal replacement. “It’s frozen yogurt, but healthy,” Caicedo explains—clean, satisfying, and designed to make choosing well feel easy. That philosophy extends to Ernie’s newest location in Sunset Harbour, a neighborhood Caicedo feels deeply connected to.
“I grew up in Miami Beach… the lifestyle here really fits our identity,” he says. The brand’s growth now spans six locations across South Florida, from Coral Gables and Pinecrest to Miami Lakes, Parkland, Boca, and Miami Beach. As partner Andrew Platt puts it, “No matter where you are, we are nearby.”
With sustainability-minded packaging, a loyal local following, and bestsellers like The Automatic alongside fan favorites Gypsy Love and The Nomad, Ernie’s continues to carve out its place as a homegrown, health-forward staple.
“Eat at Ernie’s,” Caicedo says simply. “Try a bowl that’s different from any you’ve ever had—you’ll be glad you did.”
