i have this thing with old stuff...
maybe i was genetically predispositioned to love vintage (my dad is a second-generation antique dealer) but i have always been inspired by things from decades past.
there’s something deliberate about using older things — physically winding a new roll of film into a camera, punching the keys of a typewriter hard enough so that the text shows up on the page, waiting for an instant photo to develop in real time, taking a pair of vintage shoes to the cobbler — but also the hunt itself, scouring through flea markets and secondhand stores for the perfect finds. that, in a world of easy, fast decisions and rampant overconsumption, that beautiful things can and *should* take time.
using and wearing old things feels like a return: a return to the tactile, to the intentional, to the human. that’s something i’ve loved so much about building @pearlsociety.co over the past year. this collective community yearns for genuine connection and creative expression, and we’ve found it by working with our hands and curating offline experiences.
so people might laugh when i carry six film cameras in my kit (they all do different things!) or block off an entire day to go thrifting around osaka or lug my typewriter across the border for a four-day trip to mexico, but i’m going to keep living (and thriving) in my cute lil analog bubble. if any of this resonates, come join the next pearl society event — we can’t wait to welcome you 📓
ps: included the first pic because the entire ‘fit is secondhand!
