Love it or leave it: what do you think of this partially rough 2.41ct Champagne Trillion Cut Diamond from Canada’s Ekati Mine 🍁
I’ve been working with our cutters over the past month and change mapping out what we want to have cut out of two collections of rough Canadian diamonds - one Champagne from the Ekati Mine, the other Salt & Pepper from the Gahcho Kué Mine.
When our cutters showed me the original 2.92ct rough diamond maccle and the initial blue prints for options for what we could cut the diamond into, I felt like it would be a shame to polish out the remarkable trigonal etching on the surface of the diamond. Trigons are a natural feature that sometime occur during a diamond’s formation beneath the Earth. The process behind their creation is pretty fascinating as they are caused as a result of a partial dissolution of the stone due to high heat - essentially from the diamond melting a little after forming part way.
Instead of cutting the diamond into a fully faceted shape, we decided to try an experiment; we left the stone’s faces rough and faceted crown angles and a girdle along the periphery of the diamond to give the stone some sparkle while preserving some of its natural, raw beauty. Let us know what you think of the final outcome in the comments below!
