Last year I had the opportunity to art direct this movie, working under the incredible vision of Production Designer @sue.chan.pd to create Kya’s world. We built Kya’s house and Jumpin’s bait shack out on the Bayou amongst epic live oaks and palmettos, we built rickety old fire towers in various forms and the dreary county jail, and transformed the town of Houma into 1950’s Barkley Cove - amongst many other sets. All drawn by our set designer @jessica_ochoa_johnson and dressed by our Decorator Alice Baker. In addition, I got to create over 70 drawings and paintings as Kya’s artwork, diving deep into the world of North Carolina nature. I worked alongside our talented graphic designer Will Eastin and our prop master David Wartburton to make Kya’s published books, and Grace Kelsey who drew young Kya’s art and much of the journals seen in the film. I worked with so many talented people (our Asst Art Director @chase348, our Construction, Paint and Greens teams - even @crooky8989 who documented our behind the scenes photos) - and I fell in love with New Orleans where Alex and I now call home.
