It is dangerously hot outside this week, with the heat index creeping up to 110°, and yet there are hundreds of Louisvillians who have no choice but to sleep outdoors or in emergency shelter on any given night.
During extreme weather, three of Louisville's shelters open their doors beyond normal capacity to accommodate more people; these are called White Flag days. White Flag shelters are Salvation Army (day only), Wayside (overnight only), and St. Vincent de Paul (men only). You can go directly to these shelters during White Flag or call 502-637-2337 between 10-4 daily for more help.
Still, White Flag is a temporary fix for a serious problem that is growing as inflation continues to rise, forcing poor people to make difficult choices about how to spend their limited money.
Please fill out the form at the link in our bio to encourage your Metro Council rep to fund housing and homeless services so that fewer people end up on our streets; more people maintain their housing; and shelters can increase services and accommodate people with fewer barriers.
