Judy Stevens and Jackie Gooley understand what it can be like to have to skip meals. They’ve both experienced homelessness and hunger. Judy said she’s learned how to make her money stretch, but with recent inflation, it’s been difficult. “I went to the store two weeks ago to buy eggs, and it cost me almost $7,” she said. She’s not alone. A lot of people in her community are struggling, including her daughter Jackie who is blind and has had issues getting on social security. Unable to work, Jackie said the South Community Food Pantry, that receives food from member food bank @foodbankwma, has been a godsend. The food pantry is a bright spot: “they give us basically everything that we need,” Jackie said.
