Navajo/Diné, climber, hiker, sustainability professional and advocate Shaandiin Cedar @shaaandiiin started working with Natives Outdoors @nativesoutdoors just months after it was created in 2017. • “Like many of us, I had a strong desire to do more with my time, something that was meaningful, challenging and impactful. When I stumbled across the @Nativesoutdoors account I knew after scrolling for a few minutes that this was something that I could get behind: Elevating native and indigenous people, my people, in the outdoors, sharing their stories and teachings while also helping form powerful partnerships with brands and industry leaders to accelerate diversity, sustainability and matters of land use policy and advocacy. • Being an ambassador and Navajo woman means that I amplify and celebrate POC outside, I tell their stories, I help re-awaken love of land, and I seek out conversations and partnerships that will lead to positive change within the industry. • Use the platforms and networks you have to stoke these conversations and raise these (sometimes hard) questions. Follow and engage with public lands advocacy orgs like @protectbearsears and @ourarcticrefuge, groups like @indigenousrising or @indigenouswomxnclimb, people like @llcooljennings (our amazing Huichol and Yoeme ultra runner athlete) or @madison.dusseau (our BA Navajo climbing athlete). • Take action on initiatives that are local to you. Look up and learn about the land are you on and the indigenous people that are still there. Engage in land acknowledgments. I Reach out to people like me and ask questions and give ideas! In these ways, we become true and unstoppable allies.” • • • We Are Women Owning Our Wild We Are #GoGalavanting
