Beyond sad to see him go. Beyond grateful for all the time he gave @moweryrusty and me.
Dylan would have turned 15 in a couple of weeks. We brought him home as a puppy in 2007, and shortly thereafter, he was thrust into a life of unique adventures and showbiz-y travel. Lucky for us, he truly loved it. (At least, that’s what he always told us to our faces...) He had a very specific and endearing way of LEAPING into his travel bag the moment he saw us packing our suitcases, as though to say “Where are we going? Don’t forget me!” That’s one of the million awesome memories he left us with. He loved a great hike. He adored baby carrots. His favorite toy was “Blue Slipper.” He was a frequent flyer who fit perfectly under the seat. And though he may have left his mark on fire hydrants in virtually every major city in North America, NYC had his heart.
Dylan was diagnosed with diabetes in late 2015, which presented all three of us with a big learning curve as well as some adjustments to the daily routine. Our biggest fear was that Dylan wouldn’t survive through it. But he did survive. And then, he thrived. We can’t say enough about the care, communication and compassion the doctors and staff at @cityveterinarycare have provided Dylan with all these years.
As Rusty puts it, canine cognitive disorder proved to be the one mountain Dylan couldn’t conquer. Last night, we were able to be with him as he passed. The fact that it was a peaceful moment for him is giving our heavy hearts some comfort.
Dylan, you were an armful of unconditional love, full of subtle little life lessons. I cannot imagine a closer pal. Thank you so much. We’ll see you on the other side.
