For International Women’s Day @anothermagazine asked me about my perspective as a photographer, how I approach my subjects and how I hope to portray women in front of my lens;
I want the women I photograph to feel free. Free of all the burden of carrying what others see/think of them. Free of all the masks that they put on when they go in the public.
When I portray someone I try to get to know them, build the trust as it can be really intimidating to open yourself up to some stranger with an intrusive camera.
We all see ourselves in other people’s eyes, I’m no different, but I’d like to try and capture real emotions, reactions and beauty. Raw and rough and no sugar coating.
I try to celebrate the imperfections, the spots, the marks, the uneven makeup, chipped nail polish. Everything can be so controlled these days so I want them to let loose, let it all out, and be as they are. With all the baggage and flaws.
Also in these times let’s not forget about the brave women of Ukraine. Both those who remained in their motherland and those who were forced to leave and find shelter in foreign countries to escape the ongoing war.
Cheers to All of you!!
