Why are stats and course management important in golf? Because they can help making correct decisions and save shots! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A few guys this week asked me what they should do on the 10th hole at The Belfry. The “optimal” play was clearly to go for it unless the pin was front-left, as the scoring avg should be lower if you go for it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On day 3 with a middle-left pin scoring avg was 4.32 for the guys who laid up (28 players) and 4.10 for the guys who went for it (40 players). On day 4 with a middle-right pin scoring avg was 3.83 for the guys who laid up (29 players) and 3.62 for the guys who went for it (39 players). Basically if you laid up you were giving away almost half a shot back to the field on the weekend alone! And even on Friday when the hole was played from the back tee scoring avg was lower for the guys who went for it...the only day when laying up was better was day 1 when the pin was at the front. 🤓 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @statisticgolf @dpworldtour @thebelfryhotelandresort
