Oysters This work really combined a large history of my painterly hand. I wanted to create a work of true subtlety, celebrating a neutral palate and more gestural mark making. As painting for me feels often like a visual poem, I chose some words from a poem called “Oysters” by my wife Tais Wae @tais_rose . “Extracting the myth from the stars”, really calls our attention to the realms beyond our seeing. I felt such a strong knowing when I read this line, more of a remembering that we are all actually made of stardust. We imbue our lives with meaning and stories and the human experiences becomes so mythical with time. We extract our lives from the stars and we paint our stories into them when we go. Like blips and scrawls on the eternal starry skies this painting is a recording of moments, much like our lives. A calm and ephemeral dialogue with the earth and the sky. A poem of love and an homage to the creatures, myths and memories of earth.
