What a week! I'm so incredibly proud and feel really privileged to have worked on such a knockout show. ⭐️⭐️⭐⭐️⭐ ‘In the Black Fantastic’ features eleven exceptional artists who fuse myth, fable, spiritual traditions, science fiction and more in order to re-imagine historical events and create utopic and dystopic futures - all acting as a powerful response to the socio-political reality of the present day. Each in their own distinct way, the artists make me understand that the way we experience the world – especially in terms of race and gender, but also in the widest possible sense – is entirely constructed. Yet, we experience it as reality. By collaging together ideas, imagery and materials from across the globe, the artists create fantastical new visions of the world around us. When I finally saw all the works in real life, I was blown away by how the art manages to be so bold and daring, while still holding so much nuance and so many intricacies... I could spend hours looking at just one of the collages, paintings or sculptures on display and still be discovering more and learning more about myself.
