Clearly, Tennessee doesn't welcome everyone. The first and third bills filed in the state, immediately after the election, were focused on targeting the LGBTQ community, especially Trans people. Senate Bill 1 states that medical interventions that "alter a minor's hormonal balance, remove a minor's sex organs or otherwise change a minor's physical appearance are harmful" when intended to allow the minor "to identify with ... a purported identity inconsistent with the minor's sex." A $25,000 fine would be imposed on medical providers who violate this bill, per instance. Senate Bill 2 proposes an act to ban all "male or female impersonators" who provide entertainment that "appeals to prurient (sexual) interests" from public areas or sites where a child could view the performance. Violators of this bill would face a misdemeanor charge on the first offense and could face a Class E felony for subsequent offenses. Tennessee is on the path to criminalizing trans people. What will be done to stop it? #TransRights #TransAwarenessMonth #LGBTQRIghts #Tennessee #EqualRights #TransRightsAreHumanRights #DragShows #SIGBI
