Mooncakes for Mid Autumn Festival. They’re filled with sweet coconut and orange jelly. We made these last year for @eatchofood book release of Mooncakes and Milk Bread, which is a definitive guide for Asian pastries (get a copy from @nowservingla . It’s amazing). This is the most “Chinese” thing we make which is great considering we’re in... well Chinatown. It’s always a heartwarming treat to learn how to make something from your culture, to connect with my family in ways they recognize, to carry on an obscure tradition in a Euro centric field.
