“It’s no secret that there is a stigma around mental health. Especially in the black community - it’s been considered a weakness, shameful secrets that we should hide. • Deal with on our own. Fight through, like we’ve fought through everything else. If anything go to church, but most definitely don’t air your dirty laundry, because what would people think? • This stigma is slowing, shifting with each generation, and it’s a beautiful thing to witness. Seeing folks expressing themselves and sharing their stories. Seeing our peers being transparent about their struggles and asking for help. Seeing tv shows and blockbuster hit movies covering the topic. Social media influencers bringing their experiences to light. The tides are definitely turning. • But there is always more work to do. So our job is to continue to educate ourselves and encourage our family and friends to do the same. To continue being open and not let shame win. Because mental health is health... period and we all deserve healthy, happy lives.” • Here are just a few great resources you can follow @strong_enoughfortherapy @mentalhealthamerica and @namicommunicate to learn more about mental health. • #wehiketoheal @wehiketoheal is both a dialogue and a movement. The mission is to encourage women all over the world to tap into the healing and empowering influences within ourselves, our communities and the great outdoors! • ↗️ Head to our bio to sign up for your local #wehiketoheal group hike on March 28th!
