If you are not First Nations and you want MY knowledge, connections or advice, that is what you would call consulting and you need to pay me and any other First Nations person you ask. You take advantage of my good nature, my calm demeanour, approachability and accessibility. I will always put mob up for jobs and I will never ask them for a cut or finders fees, but if you as a creative/artist, organisation, casting agent etc want to pick my brain, you need to pay me for my time and knowledge. There are amazing examples of mob and non-mob collaborating and creating amazing platforms, programs and shows/art but most come with the right time invested in listening to our people. “Collaborating” with our community isn’t a quick fix especially when it comes to art. If you haven’t done the groundwork and established relationships with our community/communities, then stay away!
