For Fannie Lou Hamer’s 105th Birthday this Thursday we honor the warrior at rest. Or in June Jordan’s words “Lion Spine Relaxed.” Fannie Lou Hamer knew that when her sister collaborator Ella Baker said “we who believe in freedom cannot rest,” it was part of a speech to activate liberals into radical action, not an attack on naps or a valorization of movement workaholism.
