šŸ‡ On this day in 1896 dancer and choreographer Léonide Massine was born. Massine was a pioneer of modern ballet and his choreography, characterized by angular movement and rhythmically complex footwork, often caused controversy. He choreographed over 50 ballets, including Le Soleil de nuit, La Boutique fantasque and Le Tricorne; he also choreographed and danced in such films as The Red Shoes and Tales of Hoffmann. He is pictured here in 1947 dancing in Le Tricorne alongside Margot Fonteyn; the set and costumes are designed by none other than Pablo Picasso! #OnThisDay
