For the actual photos I made, they’re at tiffanyluong.com/reclamation The Secret Garden workshop was equal parts experimentation, play, critique, and introspection. Maggie’s invitation to explore our own gardens and what is undiscovered there was the guiding framework for the workshop, and although open-ended and abstract, it was a challenge that helped me go on an emotional archaeological dig to unearth some memories to rewrite. My biggest challenge was coming from a documentary background—my typical practice is to watch a scene unfold and capture moments. Maybe 2hrs photographing, likely 1000 frames to cull through to develop the narrative. This workshop pushed me to turn the process upside down—2-4hrs planning/propping/storyboarding! To make 1 good picture! I will never forget this experience of looking for the stillness that speaks, trekking through dark forests & cold lakes with @malbaughphoto (physically and symbolically), subsisting on a giant box of gf dino nuggets I found in the supermarket bc all the restaurants were closed every night by the time we finished working & being surrounded and supported by an incredible cohort filled to the brim with striving and stories.
