“In all honestly, I @adventures_in_huck_phinn wasn’t really drawn to vanlife to start- I was actually wanting to travel abroad for a while. But when life took a sharp turn for me, I realized that traveling in the states was my only option for a while and what better way to do that than in a vehicle?

The biggest challenges I faced in this transition was probably just choosing and buying a rig- after that, you are committed, you are amped, and you’ll do just about anything to get on the road. At that point, the toughest part is over.
•
The thing that I’ve come to love most about this lifestyle is the community that is out there doing the same thing. You whittle down your life into the most simplistic form (everything you own fits into a couple hundred square feet) and when you meet a fellow nomad you understand that the person you are meeting is just as whittled down, raw, and authentic as you’ve become. I’ve met some of the most incredible, good hearted, and giving people just because I live in my rig.
•
Van life is not as glam as you see on social media, but it is rewarding in so many other ways. You won’t always have an epic view, your house might get a flat in the middle of nowhere, and sometimes you’ll question why the heck you are doing this at all. BUT it is always redeemed- you’ll meet a super kind family that helps tow you out or find a free camping spot the next day with a view that makes you want to cry.
•
If you like a very vanilla life, this is not for you. But if you like to be surprised by the world and by your own gumption on a daily basis- go buy the van.”
