Tips you need to know before visiting Great Sand Dunes 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 SAVE THIS POST for later! Did you know that this National park in Colorado is home to the tallest sand dune in North America? Read below for my top tips to know before you visit! • Prepare for some pretty intense hiking if you want to get past the initial humps of dunes to find the best view. Hiking up the sand is no joke and this park was way more challenging to find a great view for photos than Death Valley or White Sands in my opinion • Grab sand boards at the Oasis RV before heading into the park - it’s around $21 for a day rental • There are very few food options near the park so packing your own food is recommended • Don’t miss the visitor center - it has some of the best National park merch I’ve seen 👏🏻 • Visiting the dunes is best in the early morning or early evening on sunny days as there is absolutely no shade • Pack for all kinds of weather even in summer. Seriously 🥶 I wore a tank top at times and my puffy Patagonia, it just depends on the weather but I’d be prepared for it all. Sun, rain, windy, cold temps etc! • Don’t forget to also explore the park at night! Great Sand Dunes is a designated international dark sky park and the stars are just 🤩 • Even if you aren’t physically able to climb the dunes, don’t skip this one. The views from the visitor center and from the base of the dunes are still gorgeous 😍 • If you can’t find camping inside the park, don’t stress. There were tons of spots in the first come first serve campground Oasis RV just 10 minutes outside of the entrance. We had zero reservations and arrived after hours and had no trouble finding a spot 🙌🏻 Is Great Sand Dunes on your list?! #visitcolorado #nationalparks #sheexplores #greatsanddunesnationalpark #greatsanddunes #sanddunes #alienlandscape #travelbloggers #womenwhoexplore #colorado #travelreels
