Meghann Riepenhoff’s solo exhibition, “Ice” offers a new perspective on the frozen material, giving visual form to its cosmic vastness and minute intricacies ❄️ On view at the gallery through October 22, the exhibition explores the layered histories contained within naturally occurring ice: the crystals that react in real time to their surroundings, the pollutive effects of the photography industry on natural bodies of water, and the paradoxical permanence of change found in all aspects of life 🌀 In the artist’s newest monograph of the same name, co-published by @radius.books and Yossi Milo Gallery, author Rebecca Solnit writes, “Frozen, we say, to mean that something stopped, because ice stops things, it hold things still, holds itself still so that some of the best records of the distant past we have include ice cores from Greenland whose bubbles let scientists measure the mix of gases in the ancient atmosphere... but what comes next will not be an interglacial but a further melting of ice that will change, is changing, all the shorelines again, and everything else.” 🧊
