As thunderstorms continue across northern California, Feeding America has reached out to network members in the area as evacuations and flooding occur across the state. @secondharvestsantacruz and numerous California network members are serving flood survivors and are reporting levels beyond what their current inventories or local resources can support. As of January 10, Second Harvest has distributed more than 15,000 pounds of food in Santa Cruz and Watsonville. Additionally, their team is assisting with sandbag distribution using their trucks to get large quantities of sandbags to flood zones. We’ve also received reports from @foodbanksbc which is supporting three American Red Cross evacuation centers to care for people in their hard-hit area. To help with disaster efforts, Feeding America deployed two truckloads of food boxes as well as a truckload of hydration beverages, and we are working with partners to secure additional water and food supplies.
