SF GIANTS - AUG 15
Two things.
1. I’m very proud of myself, and I need to sit in that in public. I didn’t know I could sing like this and there was a time in my career when I absolutely could not. The dark periphery of every spotlight holds a lot of unseen work — and in this case A LOT of voice lessons w/ @deric_rosenblatt and coachings with @thisisjaspergrant. I’m thankful for the friends, family, mentors and teachers in the trenches of shadow work with me. We outside shining now! Also much gratitude to @broadwaysf and the @sfgiants fans in the stadium that night. You sang along, you were generous with your praise, and one of you even bought me a drank. I could not have asked for a warmer welcome on my first night w/ @oklahomabway in San Francisco.
2. In making sure that I actually knew the lyrics to the Star-Spangled Banner, I noticed, maybe for the first time, that the lyrics of the national anthem ask more questions than they make statements. The orchestration certainly sounds like a giant declaration, but the message is essentially an, “are we there yet?”
Can you see it? Does that banner yet wave? Questions are the beginnings of transformation, and we get to be creative in our wrestle with God for answers. Take a knee like Colin, option up like Whitney, burn a flag, say a prayer. Nothing is settled here. We ain’t there yet.
