A few months ago, I was invited to be part of this documentary highlighting the growth of women's skateboarding. Since I began skateboarding, it has been my mission to document non-traditional skaters in my community. I am very honoured to have wonderful mentors who have helped me along the way, kept me inspired, and motivated me to keep going despite all the barriers in the industry. It hasn't been easy, but we have to celebrate the small victories and remind ourselves that the work we are doing now will impact the lives of future generations of skateboarders.
I want to take this moment to remind you to take the time to listen to the leaders in marginalized and racialized communities, listen to Black and Indigenous voices, listen to the youth. The work might start with sharing posts on social media, but it needs to continue with taking action today and every day. We are here to stay, and we want better opportunities for everyone and equity in this industry and this world.
If you are a skateboarder and feel like you don't belong, remember there is a place for you in skateboarding. Never question that.
Thanks for your time, and thank you to @canadaskateboard for giving us this space to share a bit about ourselves. You can watch this episode on youtube (link in bio.) Thank you to @unafarrar for doing such and amazing job interviewing all of us and @miksmind @danecollison and @emhiggs for the cinematography.
