I am Wei You always see me here posting beauty videos and trying to look cute on IG. But today, I want to tell you my life story as a Chinese woman living in the US; a side of me you have never seen before on social media. I grew up in China, where I was always the majority. Never had any concept that people might not like someone because they were Chinese. I moved to the States after college, and had my first real experience of being racially assaulted. It was shocking and confusing. Since then I have seen too many hate crimes committed against our #aapi community with too many good people hurt or worse. I don’t know the answer, but I do know we are all just humans on our own life journey and way more similar than dissimilar. Why hate? Why spend any of these precious life moments hating other people when you don’t know much about them other than they maybe look or speak differently than you. Why not just love, care and support each other and try to make this world the best that it can be? I don’t often take public stands on social issues like this and so it’s amazing to have one of my favorite brands @alphahskincare partner with me to make this video and help support my efforts to draw attention to this important issue.
