So why exactly was some ethnicity foaming at the mouth over this Movie “The Herd” Because I’m confused. Didn’t the movie even start with a clear disclaimer saying it’s a work of fiction created solely for storytelling and awareness? So what didn’t you see? Why the unnecessary outrage? Why the long hiss? Now, let me just say this before I enter the real thing that annoyed me: To me, the movie was okay. Not underwhelming. The actors actually did well. The raw emotion was obvious especially Adamma, played by Ihuoma Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman. That Lady brought her whole A-game. Her emotions were so real I could literally relate. And she’s so gorgeous because almost the entire movie she was acting bare-faced and still fine like that. God did overtime on her. Now... the part that pissed me off, ehn? Let me talk about it calmly. How will a full-fledged Igbo man, born to Igbo parents, married to an Igbo woman, not understand Igbo?? Okay, maybe you can’t speak, annoying but okay. But you can’t even understand?? You can’t even pick up the basics of your own language?? To the point that they had to start translating simple Igbo for him in English and that single delay in understanding led to the death of that fair guy (I don’t know if he was a corps member or not). That scene irritated me so much. It was nauseating to watch. I was actually livid. And let’s even be honest this is not just about the movie. This is literally what is happening in real life. Igbo people proudly opening their mouths to say “I don’t know how to speak Igbo” like it’s an achievement. You’re bragging about not knowing your own root? Your identity? Your heritage? Your core being? I actually see it as senseless behavior. Nothing to be proud of. Back to the movie, aside from this part, I honestly don’t understand all the noise. Every ethnicity collected. Everybody saw themselves in the mirror. The movie represented what is actually happening in Nigeria, not some fantasy world. And the part that shocked me was how the community people obviously knew what was going on. Because when Gusi and Derin came out and met that corn-roasting lady outside, the woman didn’t even try to help. She just jejely turned. Even the man ran away. Meaning the community is aware they’re the ones feeding information. Which honestly makes me question the trending “unknown gunmen” they say are entering the country to kidnap? No. It’s insiders. It’s the people living in that same environment enabling and assisting the evil. This movie opened my eyes to see a lot of things differently. Very educative. Very reflective. The lessons? Too many. The angles? Deep. The execution? Decent. Overall, Daniel Etim Effiong did a really good job.#theherd #movies #theherdmovie #netflix
