Today, our son turns one week old. Hugo Clark Laffitte Corda-Graver is the result of a five-year surrogacy journey—born first of a shared dream and a sustained effort. This last week has been unlike any other for us. Our days in the hospital feel so far away—an extended introduction, a liminal space with no hours or minutes or sharp edges, blanketed by the kindness of our surrogate and the attentive staff. We cannot believe Hugo is home with us in Brooklyn. We’ve never been so in love. We knew from the moment we saw him that he was our person.
