When people talk to me about the young adults today or “your generation”, they usually sound discouraged. Many people I talk to see a dark future ahead of us. They’re typically doubtful that we can ever return to sanity— and I’m not surprised by that. I mean, you don’t have to look far to see that we are lost. Empty. Wandering. Aimless. Tired. We are just tired. And so we give ourselves to meaningless pleasure and selfish dreams. We do not know where to go, so we don’t go anywhere. We do not know who we are, so we spend years trying hard to create ourselves. And in all of this, we feel alone. With the world, we are constantly pressured into sharing and posting about how great our life is going. With our own friends and families, we have to pretend like we have it all figured out. But no one actually knows what we are going through. No one really knows us. ➡️ But this is exactly why our churches need to reach out with intentionality. There is a dire need for young adults to find a Christ-centered community during this vital season. If they cannot find community in our churches, they only have two options: 1) find meaningful relationships somewhere else or 2) live isolated during some of the most formative years of their lives. The young adult (whether married or single, religious or secular, baptist or not) should not be living this season of their life alone. They need Jesus Christ to make sense of their life. They need to be reminded of the family and friendships God has given them during this season. They need to know that they are loved, and that they are called to a life of purpose and significance in God’s kingdom. So let’s not be so bleak. There is still a generation that believes Jesus saves. I hope you see God’s hand moving today, and I pray that you’ll be part of His preparing the future church.
