Did you know that our olive grove is situated in the middle of Parco Alto Garda Bresciano? A nature reserve with rich flora and fauna. Olive growing has a long tradition in Tignale. The olive groves all face the lake, so the olive trees are spoiled by the sun, plenty of wind and also enjoy a fantastic view. All of them consist mostly of varieties that are native only here and produce a very high quality oil. The organic olive oil is produced in perfect harmony with the environment, without the use of pesticides, weedkillers or artificial fertilisers. The steep, rocky and soil conditions explains the many landscape terraces supported by dry-stone walls, often with only small patches of soil where the olive trees grow. This is one of the reasons why the harvest is done entirely by hand. The arduous work and the small yield are invaluable and hardly recognised, which may well lead to the extinction of the activity in the long run. Casaliva is an indigenous olive variety, native only at Lake Garda, with a high yield; it produces a light and fragrant oil with a balanced fruity flavour interspersed with slightly bitter and spicy nuances. There are still around 100 smallholders growing olives on almost 51 hectares of land with a total of 14,000 trees.
