rough between the edges . . . . . As I read the Sunday @nytimes I am amazed by the work that they do and the stories that they share with the world. As a species, we have the responsibility to address the human rights issues that plague the world all in varying degrees. I often feel paralyzed when it comes to social media and how to illustrate that I am not just posting a black square and calling it a day. Behind the scenes I am staying active in multiple ways - through sending emails and making calls, protesting, unlearning and relearning about America’s past and present by reading books and scholarly articles, watching films and documentaries. I am actively working towards helping people in my circle by sharing my network and skills to help them as much as I can. We all can help and be allies by starting locally within our own lives. I feel the same way about climate change - hence my transition to a plant based diet. That alone has been an ongoing journey for me over the past few years. The fight for equality will also be an ongoing journey where I must stay active. This isn’t just a moment, it’s a movement. It’s easy to feel sad and helpless when you read the news daily and receive push back and close-mindedness when having difficult conversations with friends, colleagues, and even loved ones....however when has anything worth fighting for been easy? This fight for equality and basic human rights is far from over. Our persistence and grit will allow us to make the future world a better world.
