One of the earlier geography lessons you teach a child is about their place in the world. As a result we have been talking about our home country, Canada. Teaching your child about the flag of their country is a great way to build recognition and connection with where they live.
If your child leans into it, you can also introduce flags of other countries. Perhaps the countries that neighbor yours or those that are connected to their heritage.
This paper cutting artwork is easy to put together on a rainy day.
All you need is construction paper in the colors of the flag and a white paper to mount everything on.
Create a simple outline of your flag of choice and then invite your child to glue the pieces on using a small amount of white glue and a paintbrush (our glue kit is from @lovevery and I prefer using white glue to add a fine motor + self control element to this craft)
If your child is ready for it you can also invite them to be a part of the preparation of this activity by cutting the colored pieces you will need!
You can extend your learning by talking about landmarks of the country you are studying or animals that live there. Follow your child if they want to learn more!
Happy crafting! Will you try this at home?
