What is the connection between art and arts organizations and the climate change conversation? Tonight at 6:30 PM ET, @forgeprojectny executive director and chief curator @candicebhopkins will join Julie Decker, Director/CEO of @anchoragemusuem; Jane Winchell, the Sarah Fraser Robbins Director of the Art & Nature Center and Leader of the Museum Climate & Environment Initiative @peabodyessex; and Jessica May, Managing Director of Art & Exhibitions, @thetrustees, and Artist Director, @decordova_museum; for the 2022 Paul J. Cronin Memorial Lecture. Julie Decker, PhD, is the Director/CEO of the Anchorage Museum in Alaska, which is a leading center for scholarship, engagement, and investigation of Alaska and the North. Decker’s career has been focused on the people and environment of Northern places and building projects and initiatives that are in service to local and global communities. Jane Winchell is the founding director of PEM’s Dotty Brown Art & Nature Center. After starting at the museum in 1992 as curator of the Natural History collection, she led the development and creation of an all-new interdisciplinary and interactive Center at PEM, which opened in 2003. Since 2021 Winchell has been spearheading the institution’s new Climate + Environment Initiative that features a series of exhibitions, program offerings and institutional undertakings to address the planetary crisis. The Paul J. Cronin Memorial Lecture series was established in 1981 to consider topics broadly focused on changing attitudes towards twentieth and twenty-first century art. The Cronin Lecture series is made possible by a generous grant to deCordova from the Grover J. Cronin Memorial Foundation. This important conversation will take place at the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln, Massachusetts. RSVP online at thetrustees.org. Image: @rosebsimpson, "Counterculture,” 2022.
