And we’re out... I’ll happily (and possibly smugly) admit, that with rain due for 3am last night and intermittently threatening to continue until 6pm this evening, we bailed out of camping at 8pm last night. We spent the late afternoon packing up, enjoyed a last fireside meal (from the on-site food vendors 😊) and toasted marshmallows before heading home. Was camping as bad as I thought - no. Was it something I’d do again - possibly, but with a few changes: Firstly, while our bell tent may have seemed huge in our garden 18 months ago - as a sole living and sleeping space for 2 adults, one child and a dog, it was somewhat bijou. Our tent was the same size as most people’s gazebo/side/storage tent 😂 Russ even commented how he’s never experienced inferiority quite like it. We were quite literally the runtiest runt of the tent litter - our camping nube status on display for everyone to just about see if they used their magnifying glass 🤦🏻‍♀️ Secondly, while there were hoards of kids playing in trees, streams and mud banks - Cas felt a little intimidated by the previously forged friendships and so was loathed to ‘get stuck in’ - next time we’d definitely do like those more seasoned campers seem to do and travel in packs. But other than that, the pup was awesome, Cas made memories and we got to feel grass beneath our feet and fresh air in our lungs.
