Scenes from the past few weeks along the California coastline. Which moment is your favorite? It's hard for me to pick a favorite because they all hold a special place in my heart. Recently, I found myself researching, “How many years does it take before you can say you are ‘from’ somewhere?” I’ve always identified as a Texan and proudly say, “I’m from Texas.” And I still do. According to the internet, once you’ve lived somewhere for 5-10 years, it’s generally accepted to say you’re “from” that place. It’s interesting, isn’t it? Saying you’re “from” a place signals a piece of our identity and expresses a sense of belonging to something bigger than ourselves. I’ve now lived in California for 16 years, so it’s safe to say I’m from here, too. I drove here from Chicago, where I went to college, in seek of warmth. While I’ll always have roots in Texas, this past year has especially tugged at my heartstrings as I rediscover parts of myself along the coastlines and beaches of this beautiful state. California, with its stunning landscapes, has become a part of me in ways I never fully realized until now. Where are you "from?"
