My God.
It’s all just too much.
Again. In the heart of Los Angeles. On the pavement, begging for his life, police from the LAPD killed another young brother in broad daylight.
This is 31 year old High School English Teacher, Keenan Anderson. Beloved. Popular. Adored. Cherished.
Keenan was in a car accident and FLAGGED DOWN POLICE himself. After the accident Keenan was clearly not well and needed compassionate medical attention.
He caused no harm.
Hurt no soul.
But was repeatedly shocked with 50,000 volts of electricity.
I hate that I even have to explain this, but shocking someone with 50,000 volts of electricity AND asking them to stay still is PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE.
By definition, when you already cannot breathe, and have grown men putting their whole weight on your body, with your arms stretched behind your back, it makes you feel like you are being killed.
Then, shoot 50,000 VOLTS of electricity into a man’s body over and over and OVER again and that man will be unable to comply or stay still.
It’s biology.
You were built to live.
But they did to Keenan what I know they would NEVER do to their own son or father or brother.
Don’t tell me it’s not racial.
It is.
They treated this dear brother like he was disposable.
As many of you may know, Tasers are regularly LETHAL. It’s just portable electricity. People die every year from moments like this.
Keenan needed an ambulance, but instead he got brutes. Monsters.
I’m standing with my friends and family in Los Angeles. Of course we will fight for accountability and justice, but we are all so tired.
Of begging for the thing they clearly don’t want to give us - which is change that prevents this from ever happening - like it almost never happens in the entire developed world.
It’s possible.
Keenan was unarmed.
He should be alive.
Please follow my friends @docmellymel & @blmgrassroots for next steps. Love you all.
