12,000 feet up!! I’m in awe of this incredible effort to get Adnan up Kilimanjaro. He’s paralyzed below the chest from a sniper shot in Syria when he was 14. He has to balance over every bump using only the strength in his arms & because he can’t walk his blood doesn’t circulate like the rest of us which means his body doesn’t generate heat. BECAUSE he’s such an athlete his oxygen is actually better than the rest of the team! Safa who was burned when she raced to save her siblings from a fire is having an extremely trying experience. She’s struggling physically and with the altitude. She’s having flashbacks to the day she was burned 7 years ago and the horrific smell of that day. For Tania it’s very mental. She spoke yesterday with her mother still living close to Kharkiv - who is OK but she was told that an explosion that went off close to her stepfather has significantly damaged his hearing. Shaqayeq from Afghanistan’s back is bothering her but she is moving along. She’s tired but as she said before “I’m doing this for something bigger than me”.
