Students of this year’s edition of The Prince’s Foundation’s Building Arts Programme, run in collaboration with @qestcraft, have been hard at work in our craft workshops at @dumfrieshouse to create elements of their final project.
The nine-month course enables students from a broad range of discipline areas to learn together while exploring the interdisciplinary nature of architecture, the decorative arts and traditional crafts, and the role these practices can continue to play in shaping the world around us.
This year’s final project has tasked the group to create new work in response to The Sculpture House, a Victorian villa at Ferguslie Park in Paisley. The Sculpture House is a new community venture launched by @sculpturehousecollective, which aims to use sculptural objects, techniques and thinking as a catalyst for collaborative working, making space for creative activity, discussion and sharing.
Our talented students have been utilising traditional techniques in encaustic tiling, decorative plastering, copperworking, natural-dyeing, carpentry, and stained-glass creations as part of a broad assignment which will see them elevate and celebrate key parts of the building through the application of craft.
The Building Arts Programme is a fully-funded course supported by Ecclesiastical (part of Benefact Group) and others.
