I received some questions and pushback when I posted this on TikTok. I’m not trying to disparage anyone’s parents or grandparents who doused wounds in hydrogen peroxide (I think many of us grew up believing that was the best thing to do). However, our views on this one have evolved. While hydrogen peroxide can kill bacteria it may also kill healthy skin cells and potentially delay wound healing. Add this to the don’t do list along with rubbing alcohol and neosporin / polysporin which can cause an allergic reaction. It is generally best to clean superficial wounds with mild soap and water.
