Swipe to zoom ➡️ More than a million years ago, magma forced its way through Earth's crust, forming shallow, hot rock, priming the area to produce geothermal energy in the Coast Range of California. From space, we see mountains, as well as the white roofs of power plants. Image Descriptions: First: A satellite image of The Geysers. The landscape is mostly mottled shades of green, with brown land and spots of white buildings mixed in. Running from upper left to lower right, a series of parallel mountains bisect the image, green with vegetation. Below and to the left of the mountains, a patchwork of bright green rectangles broken up with straight gray lines show human settlement. Above and to the right of the green mountains, the rugged land is more brown, fading into another patchwork human settlement near the top of the image. The squares of this upper settlement are more shades of brown. To the right of the patchwork squares, much tinier white squares appear densely packed together, next to a grayish white triangular body of water. Second: A zoom in on the previous satellite image, to the upper right corner where the white roofs and town take up most of the image. Circling around the right and bottom edges of the image, rugged hills and mountains are colored a darker green with brown land. In the far left, squares of dull green and brown indicate human activity. The center top quadrant is dominated by tiny white squares, which are the roofs of buildings. Long gray white roads stretch through the white buildings. The triangular shaped body of water to the left of the buildings is a more irregular shape this close up. To the top left of the image, a darker blue body of water is more visible. #Earth #Space #NASA #Climate #EarthFromSpace #Landsat
